The course is arranged as a discussion seminar dedicated to the famous Polish literary works in a broad European context. The main area of issues will be devoted to the 19th-century Polish literature (e.g. poetry, prose poetry, short novels, poetical fragments, epistolary novels, Gothic romances, dramas) in a wide comparative perspective. Selected literary works of Polish literature – especially from the Romantic period (Mickiewicz, Słowacki, Krasiński, Malczewski, Goszczyński, Dziekoński) – in comparison with the European ones not only show diversity of topics, richness of poetical style or huge variety of tropes or motifs, but also reveal a “common literary spaces”: the same themes, aesthetic ideas, poetic imageries and artistic languages. The interpretative context and critical analysis will mainly refer to the English, French, German and Russian literature.
