The course is concerned with some selected problems of Greek philosophy.  It discusses main sources of Greek philosophy, its origin and subsequent stages of development, such as Pre-Socratic philosophy (from Thales to the Sophists), the main philosophical ideas of the Greek classical period (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle) and the philosophy of schools in Hellenistic era (Stoics, Epicureans, and Skeptics). The philosophy's development is presented on a broad cultural background, including some elements of history, literature, and history of ancient art.

The course provides a basis for understanding further development of philosophy and introduces ideas and concepts which lead to the formation of European culture.
